After reviewing the records of the week, I found that there is nothing worth writing about this week. So, I'll keep it short if there is nothing to say. This week was a combination of high spirits and laziness; the desktop environment of my old computer crashed, most likely due to a graphics driver issue, and I was forced to reinstall it; the weather was still good, sunny.
Stop Obsessing❌#
On Friday, while reading Ruan Lao Shi's Technology Weekly, I came across an article titled "Stop Obsessing Over Tools." This article is a reflection by the author and a way for the author to remind themselves.
I’m writing this post mainly for myself as I have fallen victim to this problem. But I hope this helps others as well.
I often see people in a constant search for the best note taking app. Or the best Linux distro and desktop setup. Or the best AI tool to enhance productivity. Or the best game engine. And so on, you guys get the point.
This search takes you nowhere. Doing this doesn’t make you productive. You will never find the best or the most perfect setup. Settling for good enough is most often the best thing you do. Otherwise you’ll find yourself productive in the search of being productive.
My advice, find something and stick to it. Even if it’s not perfect. It doesn’t need to be. Just get the work done.
For me, this can be considered an eye-opening reflection. When choosing various tools, we always tend to search for better or the best ones. However, in reality, there is never a best one, so the result is endless tinkering. No matter how good the tool is, its impact on the work or task we need to complete should be minimal, or even negligible. The key is to concentrate our energy on the task itself.
If the current tool can already perform the work well and smoothly, then keep using it and don't focus on the tool!
